Flood Testing of Waterproofing Assemblies in Vancouver, BC

Serving Vancouver and the Metro Vancouver region

Controlled flooding of isolated deck, balcony, and roof sections to identify membrane breach locations under realistic water exposure conditions.

Flood testing is the most reliable method for locating breaches in waterproofing membranes on decks, balconies, and flat roofs. The suspect area is isolated using temporary dams or drain plugs and filled with water to a depth of 25-50 mm (1-2 inches). The water is allowed to stand for a minimum of 24 hours — though 48-72 hours is preferred for positive results. During the test period, the interior space below (or adjacent structure) is monitored for water entry. The appearance of water confirms a membrane breach, and the location of the breach is identified by observing water entry patterns, sometimes in combination with dye testing. Flood testing is the definitive method for waterproofing warranty claims and is often the only method accepted by condominium insurers.
