How Moisture Meter Testing Works
Moisture meters are essential tools that provide quantitative measurement of moisture content in building materials. Pin-type meters use two electrodes that penetrate the material surface to measure electrical resistance, which varies with moisture content. Pinless meters use electromagnetic sensors to scan the surface without leaving marks, measuring the material's dielectric constant. Both types provide numerical moisture readings that can be compared against known dry standards for that material. Moisture meters are used to confirm thermal imaging findings, quantify the extent of water damage for insurance claims, monitor drying progress during restoration, and identify hidden moisture in areas where thermal imaging is not effective.
