Slab Foundation Crack — Water Entry Risk
Cracks in concrete slab foundations can allow water, radon, and soil gases into the building. BC homes with slab foundations should monitor cracks for signs of water entry.
Possible Causes
- •Concrete shrinkage during curing (normal hairline cracks)
- •Settlement or movement of foundation soil
- •Hydrostatic pressure from groundwater causing slab heave

- •Poor compaction of fill beneath slab before pouring
Recommended Steps
- 1Mark crack with date and measure width — monitor for changes
