Sprinkler Dry Spots Upstream — Obstruction or Leak Signature
Dry spots in a sprinkler zone while water flows elsewhere may indicate a leak in the irrigation line reducing pressure to downstream heads.
Possible Causes
- •Underground leak in main line reducing pressure to downstream heads
- •Partially closed or blocked zone valve
- •Clogged sprinkler head filter or nozzle
- •Pipe crimp or kink restricting flow
- •Undersized pipe for number of heads on zone
Recommended Steps
- 1Observe if all heads on the zone operate properly — dry spots indicate issue
- 2Clean heads in dry area — remove and flush debris from filter and nozzle
- 3Replace any damaged or missing heads in the affected zone
- 4If heads are clean but some are dry, pressure loss from leak or obstruction is likely
- 5Call professional leak detection for buried pipe assessment
