Tracer Gas Leak Detection in British Columbia
Safe hydrogen/nitrogen tracing for the hardest-to-find leaks.

What is tracer gas leak detection?
Tracer gas leak detection introduces a safe, inert hydrogen-nitrogen mix into an empty pipe. The small gas molecules escape through the leak and rise to the surface, where a sensitive sniffer detects them. It is the method of choice for non-pressurised lines, plastic pipe, and leaks that are silent to acoustic equipment.
How our tracer gas process works
- 1We drain and isolate the suspect line.
- 2A safe 5% hydrogen / 95% nitrogen tracer gas is introduced into the pipe.
- 3Gas escapes only at the leak and migrates to the surface.
- 4A hydrogen-sensitive probe sweeps the area to pinpoint where the gas emerges.

Tracer Gas — frequently asked questions
Is tracer gas safe?
Yes. We use a non-toxic, non-flammable 5% hydrogen blend in nitrogen that is approved for leak detection and leaves no residue.
When is tracer gas better than acoustics?
When a line can't be pressurised, is made of plastic, or is a drain — situations where there is little or no leak sound for acoustic equipment to hear.
