CCTV Pipe Inspection by BC City

Frequently asked questions

What size pipes can CCTV inspect?

Our cameras inspect pipes from 50mm (2") residential drain connections up to 300mm (12") and larger commercial and municipal drains. We specify the appropriate camera head for your pipe diameter.

Do I need to excavate for a CCTV inspection?

No. The camera enters through an existing cleanout, drain opening or small access point. No excavation or wall opening is needed for the inspection itself — only for repairs after the defect is located.

Can CCTV determine if a drain needs relining or full replacement?

Yes. The camera image shows crack width, joint offset, pipe deformation and root intrusion in detail. We grade condition and identify which sections are candidates for cured-in-place relining vs. sections requiring excavation and replacement.

Can you locate the camera position from outside the pipe?

Yes. A sonde (electronic transmitter) attached to the camera head broadcasts its position and depth. We locate it from surface with a receiver — pinpointing the exact GPS position of each defect for excavation planning.
