About This Service

Buried irrigation mainlines and laterals leak silently underground, wasting enormous amounts of water and saturating the soil before a surface symptom appears. We isolate irrigation zones, pressure-test the mainline and laterals, and use ground microphones and tracer gas to pinpoint breaks in any pipe material — from large copper mains to small-diameter PEX laterals — on residential, strata and commercial irrigation systems.

Signs You May Have This Leak

Wet patches between irrigation cycles with no obvious surface break
One zone that cannot hold pressure or never reaches full coverage
Water pooling near valve boxes or manifolds
Constantly running irrigation pump or pressure tank
Unusually high water consumption during irrigation season

Detection Process

  1. 1

We run each zone and note pressure and flow anomalies.

  2. 2

We isolate and pressure-test the main and each lateral to confirm the leak zone.

  3. 3

Ground microphones sweep the leaking zone or main to find the loudest signal.

  4. 4

For PEX or small-diameter laterals where acoustic signal is weak, tracer gas is introduced.

  5. 5

We mark the surface and estimate depth for a small, targeted repair.

What You Receive

  • Identified leaking zone or mainline section
  • Located leak position on the surface
  • Pressure test results by zone
  • Depth estimate for repair crew
  • System observations and repair recommendation

Frequently asked questions

Can you find a leak in a small-diameter PEX lateral?

Yes. Tracer gas is introduced into the isolated lateral; it rises through the soil and is detected at the surface with a hydrogen probe, even on small-diameter plastic tubing.

Is it worth detecting an irrigation leak vs. just replacing the system?

On acreages and commercial properties, mainline leaks can be very expensive to replace. Precise location means a targeted repair that costs a fraction of full replacement.

Can you inspect the backflow preventer and manifold as well?

Yes — we check manifold valves, backflow preventers and control wiring for leaks and failures as part of the system assessment.
