Anchor & Dowel Drilling Layout Scanning
Anchor and dowel installations fail when the hole hits rebar, a post-tension cable or conduit — wasted bits, weakened fixings, and in PT slabs a serious hazard. Layout scanning maps the embedded steel and services before drilling so every anchor lands in sound concrete and your layout is adjusted before, not after, a strike.
Why scan before anchoring
Adhesive and mechanical anchors need full embedment in solid concrete to reach their rated capacity. Drilling into rebar wastes time and undermines the fixing; hitting a PT tendon is dangerous. Scanning the layout first lets the engineer shift anchor points to clear zones.
Typical anchor & dowel applications
Layout scanning supports a wide range of fixings:
Railings & guardrails
Balcony, stair and parkade railing base plates.
Equipment & racking
Machine bases, racking and seismic restraints.
Structural dowels & connections
Doweling for new slabs, walls and structural ties.
Layout marking & adjustment
We mark clear-to-drill points on the surface and flag conflicts so the layout can be adjusted before drilling begins — saving rework and protecting the structure.
Detection methods we use
GPR layout scan
Maps rebar, PT and conduit across the anchor pattern.
Clear-point marking
Safe drill points marked; conflicts flagged for adjustment.
Depth guidance
Cover depth provided so embedment is planned safely.

Frequently asked questions
Why scan before drilling anchors?
So fasteners reach full embedment in sound concrete instead of hitting rebar (which weakens the fixing) or a PT cable (a serious hazard). Scanning lets you adjust the layout before drilling.
Can you mark a whole anchor pattern?
Yes. We scan the full layout, mark clear-to-drill points, and flag any that conflict with embedded steel or services.
Do you provide cover depth?
Yes. We provide the depth to embedded elements so anchor embedment depth is planned without striking them.
Is this needed for railings on a PT parkade?
Especially then. PT decks make anchor scanning critical — striking a tendon while drilling a railing base is exactly the failure this prevents.
