What is ultrasonic leak detection?
Ultrasonic leak detection listens for the high-frequency sound — above human hearing — produced by gas or air escaping under pressure, and by some water leaks. It excels at pressurised-system and compressed-air leaks, and at testing pipe and tank integrity where audible methods fall short.
How it works
- 1An ultrasonic detector scans for high-frequency turbulence at leak points.
- 2Headphones and a meter translate ultrasound into an audible signal and reading.
- 3The signal peaks at the leak.
- 4We confirm and document the located point.
Advantages
Detects pressurised gas and air leaks
Works in noisy environments
Pinpoints precise emission points
Useful for tank and valve integrity

Ultrasonic — FAQs
What leaks need ultrasonic detection?
Compressed-air, gas and some pressurised-water leaks emit ultrasound that ultrasonic detectors isolate even in noisy plants.
Does it work where it's loud?
Yes — because it listens above audible noise, ultrasonic detection performs well in noisy industrial settings.
