What is pressure & flow testing?
Pressure and flow testing is the diagnostic foundation of leak detection. By pressurising and isolating sections of a system and watching for a drop, we confirm a leak is present, determine whether it's on the supply or another line, and narrow the search before pinpointing the exact spot.
How it works
- 1We isolate a section of the system and apply test pressure.
- 2A gauge reveals whether pressure holds or drops.
- 3Isolating further narrows the leak to a single run.
- 4Flow and meter readings quantify the loss.
Advantages
Confirms a leak before any access
Isolates the affected line
Quantifies the loss rate

Pressure Testing — FAQs
Why pressure test first?
It proves there is a leak and tells us which part of the system it's on, so we don't waste time pinpointing a line that's sound.
Can it find the exact spot?
It narrows the leak to a line or section; we then pinpoint the exact spot acoustically or with tracer gas.
