What is tracer gas detection?
Tracer gas detection fills an empty pipe with a safe 5% hydrogen / 95% nitrogen mix. The small hydrogen molecules escape only at the leak and rise to the surface, where a sensitive probe detects them. It finds the leaks acoustics can't hear — plastic lines, drains and non-pressurised systems.
How it works
- 1The suspect line is drained and isolated.
- 2Safe tracer gas is introduced.
- 3Gas escapes at the leak and migrates upward.
- 4A hydrogen probe pinpoints where it surfaces.
Advantages
Finds silent and plastic-pipe leaks
Works on non-pressurised drains
Non-toxic and non-flammable
Pinpoints to a single point

Tracer Gas — FAQs
Is tracer gas safe for my home?
Yes — the 5% hydrogen-in-nitrogen blend is non-toxic, non-flammable and leaves no residue.
When do you use tracer gas?
On plastic, drain and non-pressurised lines, and whenever a leak is too quiet for acoustic methods.
