What is tracer gas detection?

Tracer gas detection fills an empty pipe with a safe 5% hydrogen / 95% nitrogen mix. The small hydrogen molecules escape only at the leak and rise to the surface, where a sensitive probe detects them. It finds the leaks acoustics can't hear — plastic lines, drains and non-pressurised systems.

How it works

  1. 1The suspect line is drained and isolated.
  2. 2Safe tracer gas is introduced.
  3. 3Gas escapes at the leak and migrates upward.
  4. 4A hydrogen probe pinpoints where it surfaces.

Advantages

Finds silent and plastic-pipe leaks
Works on non-pressurised drains
Non-toxic and non-flammable
Pinpoints to a single point

Where we use it

Tracer Gas — FAQs

Is tracer gas safe for my home?

Yes — the 5% hydrogen-in-nitrogen blend is non-toxic, non-flammable and leaves no residue.

When do you use tracer gas?

On plastic, drain and non-pressurised lines, and whenever a leak is too quiet for acoustic methods.
